The Great Wall

Ni Hao!!
We are home from our 2 week trip to China.
I took over 400 pictures and I won't post them all but look out when you come to my house.
We loved China and almost everything about it. Way to many funky smells and weird food but McD's saved me.
So here is post # 1 from
We rode a bus with our 10 new friends from Beijing about an hour, 70 miles to Simatai. A remote and unrestored part of the Wall.
This is the Great Wall shot from the parking lot
Notice the smog in the air~
(2 of the ladies went to a place right outside Beijjing that doesn't have any climbing)
We took a ski lift up about 1/2 of the way.
I kept hoping it was taking us up more.

Then began our 1 hour hike up.
It was a hot and sweaty hike. About 30 minutes into the hike we acquired our own personal Sherpa. Their job is to hold your hand, help you up and down, smile and sell you their book, post card and fan you. They too had an unusual smell. They eat lots of garlic and funky stuff.
Then climb many many steps up to several towers.
It was way cool. If it hadn't been for the smog we could of seen forever.
Then all the way down.
I am pretty sure she wouldn't of been able to stop Dane if he fell.
Danes Sherpa kept a tight hold of his hand. He kept telling her that he was married and she just hung on.
It took us about 6 hours for the round trip. Maybe you can see the lake at the bottom. We climbed all the way down, uneven steps in both height and width, pretty scary. It has law suit written all over it. So I was happy to have the sherpa even though at times I was dragging her up the steps.

This is the half way down point.
It was harder going down than up
Our friends at the bottom of the steps
then hike on the trail
and back to the hotel hot tub for most of us
