Road Trip 2016 Washington DC Mt Vernon

Washington DC Wednesday 22 June, 2016

We drove into DC and got to the JW Marriott Hotel and we were checked in and started our visit from sun up to sun down.
(we payed a new high for parking $59.00!!)  Also so glad we once again had a GPS or we would still be driving around.
The White House, the Capital Building and the Lincoln Memorial.  We tried 2 months ago to get tickets for tours to both the White House and the Capital but I guess the Montana representative doesn't have very much pull as all the tickets were gone.  It was exciting to be in Washington DC.  I have always wanted to visit the Capital.

Washington Monument

I loved seeing the Vietnam memorial.  I wore a POW bracelet and my POW came home.  So many didn't, so sad.  The picture on the right is the WWII memorial.  All so very nice.
I loved the Air and Space Smithsonian.  I thought the Smithsonian was one building but it is several.  All huge, very very nice and free.  You could spend a day in each.  I need to spend more time here.
Washington Monument and us.
Mount Vernon was the plantation house of George Washington, first President of the United States and his wife, Martha Washington. The estate is situated on the banks of the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia. The Washington family had owned land in the area since the time of Washington's great-grandfather in 1674. In 1739 they embarked on an expansion of the estate that continued under George Washington, who came into possession of the estate in 1754, but did not become its sole owner until 1761.
Also on the site is the tombs of George and Martha Washington and behind the vault are 23 other relatives, as well as a memorial to his slaves.
